James William

A set of alleged images of the Proton Saga 2025 surfaced on YouTube on November 17, sparking discussions about the design evolution of this beloved sedan. While the images have not been officially verified, they hint at a significant shift in styling, drawing inspiration from Japanese car designs, particularly those of Toyota.

A New Look for the Proton Saga

From the leaked images, the 2025 Proton Saga appears to retain the same compact and practical proportions as the current model, characterized by its short yet tall body design. The current model’s dimensions are as follows:

  • Length: 4,335mm
  • Width: 1,690mm
  • Height: 1,515mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,645mm

Current Model Overview

The Proton Saga, now in its third generation since its debut in 2016, has undergone two facelifts:

  1. 2019: Replacement of the Punch CVT with a modern 4-speed automatic transmission.
  2. 2022: Introduction of minor design updates, new features, and the Premium S variant.
  3. 2023: Upgraded to an Aisin transmission, enhancing driving performance and reliability.

The current lineup of the Proton Saga includes four variants, each catering to different preferences and budgets:

  1. Proton Saga 1.3 Standard MT: Priced at RM 34,800, this is the manual transmission option, offering fuel consumption of 6.7L/100km.
  2. Proton Saga 1.3 Standard AT: The standard automatic transmission variant, available at RM 38,800.
  3. Proton Saga 1.3 Premium AT: A higher-tier automatic variant, priced at RM 41,800.
  4. Proton Saga 1.3 Premium S AT: The top-of-the-line model, featuring enhanced features, is priced at RM 44,800.

Competitiveness in the Market

The Proton Saga primarily competes with the Perodua Bezza in Malaysia’s entry-level sedan segment. Despite the Perodua Bezza leading global sales in 2022 with 66,600 units sold, the Proton Saga continues to demonstrate strong market appeal.

In 2023, the Proton Saga became Proton’s best-selling model, with a remarkable 70,184 units sold. Its strengths lie in its excellent handling, high value-for-money, and Proton’s consistent focus on delivering a good driving experience.

What Can We Expect from the 2025 Proton Saga?

While details remain speculative, the upcoming Proton Saga could follow its predecessors with competitive pricing, a range of practical features, and a continued focus on cost-effectiveness. If the rumored design updates and Japanese-inspired styling hold true, the 2025 Proton Saga may attract a broader audience while retaining its core strengths.

As Proton refines its entry-level sedan, the Proton Saga looks poised to remain a formidable contender in Malaysia’s automotive market. Stay tuned for official updates!
